Crime in Boulder 2025 – Full Archive
This project exists to preserve a public-interest record of day-to-day crime and safety incidents in Boulder that would otherwise be undocumented.
This report is based primarily on real‑time police and emergency radio traffic, supplemented in some cases by publicly available police reports and media coverage. Scanner traffic reflects information as it is initially reported to dispatch and responding officers and may be incomplete, preliminary, or later determined to be inaccurate.
The Boulder Police Department began encrypting its scanner traffic 10/28 at approximately 9:25 AM. This effectively ended real-time public access to routine dispatch traffic. I have opted to conclude this document at that time even though significant incidents continued to occur after that date. These can now only be learned about from law enforcement records, which require formal records requests and are often released weeks or months later. In some cases, requests are denied without explanation.
Incidents listed here describe calls for service and reported events, not adjudicated findings or conclusions about what ultimately occurred.
Business names and approximate locations are included for geographic context and public‑interest reporting only. Their inclusion does not imply wrongdoing, responsibility, or unsafe conditions on the part of any business or property owner. On the contrary, most businesses in the city deal with these issues sooner or later.
Street addresses for private businesses and residences have been generalized to block level (for example, “18xx 28th St”) to reduce the risk of unintended harm while preserving location context.
Incidents are included based on availability of public records and scanner traffic, not based on location or population. Incidents involving shelters or supportive housing are included when documented in public police records and appear in chronological order alongside other calls for service.
Facilities such as emergency shelters and supportive housing exist to provide safety and stability for people during vulnerable periods of their lives. Incidents occurring at or near these facilities are included here not to characterize residents, but to reflect conditions affecting safety for staff, residents, and the surrounding community.
This is not a complete list of calls for this time period. A complete listing would be far beyond any one person’s ability to document. Gaps in coverage (ex: much of May) should not be interpreted as a lack of criminal activity.
This document is presented chronologically and without thematic grouping. Readers are encouraged to read sequentially or use keyword search based on their interests. No prioritization or weighting of incidents is implied.

(Tip: searches are case-insensitive and partial matches will still find results.)

An trespassing/assault with pepper spray which someone later posted about on Nextdoor. This was near 19th and Kalmia:
“I wanted to share an incident that happened to us on Sunday night. My husband heard the garage door open at 3:45am so he ran downstairs thinking it may have been one of the kids. He got into the garage and saw a guy with a mask on – 5’8ish/stocky. He thinks there was another person with a flashlight behind him. The guy turned to run (or so he thought) and then turned back around and sprayed my husband in the face with bear spray from 2 feet away (he was pulling the clip off the bear spray). Then he took off. My son’s car was broken into in the driveway (though his doors were unlocked) – nothing was taken – and my car was on the street locked. They broke one of the back windows which is how they got to the garage door opener. My sunglasses were the only thing of value in the car and they did not take them. They were most likely looking for the car keys. Very scary but we’re all ok.
Suggestions from the officer:
⁃ Lock your car, don’t keep anything in plain sight, hide garage door opener or take it out of your car with your keys and do not hang car keys in garage
⁃ Install motion sensor flood lights around your garage, keep your porch lights on, lock all doors, and keep the door from the garage to the house locked.
– They do try to avoid houses with cameras – even a dummy camera is a deterrent.
I was curious why the car alarm didn’t go off. Not all cars have glass sensors and if you double click the lock button (which I do all the time out of habit), in some cars, it deactivates the motion sensor in the car. We’re very thankful it was just bear spray and not a gun. Stay safe out there!”

Officers responded to a report of someone who threw a cinder block from the top level of a parking garage. Dispatch later clarified that there were approximately 7-8 cinder blocks that were thrown from the roof.
*** I read this report. It says the victim was walking her dog when she heard a scraping noise above her. She looked up and saw a pair of hands pushing a cinder block off the parking garage. She moved out of the way to avoid being hit by it. She estimated that the cinder block landed 5-10’ away from her.
The victim immediately went up to the roof to investigate. She met a building resident, who heard the commotion and was able to take a photo of the suspect, which unfortunately did not show his face. The man ignored them and walked away without saying anything.
Officers rushed into the area to set up a perimeter. They saw the man entering the nearby Hyatt hotel. However, after recovering his shirt in a stairwell, they were unable to locate him.
The victim in this case told officers she did not think she was targeted specifically because there were other broken cinder blocks laying in the area already. She and the first witness said they had seen the man in the area recently, but he was always heavily covered. Sometimes he was wearing headphones. ***
*** I visited this site. The ground around the southeast corner of the building was littered with multiple broken cinder blocks. On the roof, there were two antenna arrays which appeared to have had four cinder blocks apiece weighing down their baseplates; however only one cinder block remained. The broken cinder blocks on the ground were cleaned up shortly afterwards. ***

Dispatch confirmed the bicycle was stolen, and it was later returned to its owner. Officers also located drug paraphernalia in the man’s belongings, including a digital scale with residue and other items associated with drug use. Officers also noted the suspect was also found in possession of two large torches that could easily be confused with handguns.
