About this report
This report documents four (4) public-safety incidents occurring in Boulder, Colorado from 5/6 – 5/10 using police reports obtained through Colorado Open Records Act requests following the encryption of routine Boulder Police radio dispatch communications in October 2025. The incidents summarized here were reconstructed primarily from written police reports and related official records.
These incidents represent only a small fraction of public-safety activity occurring in Boulder during this period. Limitations in availability of official records continue to restrict how much can be confidently documented.
Gas Station Robbery / Assault
5/6
A gas station in South Boulder
2:40 PM
Officers responded emergent (lights and sirens) to a gas station regarding a male who had reportedly been stealing from the store and was actively assaulting an employee. They found the employee holding the suspect on the ground. The employee, identified as the victim, was bleeding from a laceration on his head.
Employees told officers they had confronted the suspect about stealing ice cream. According to the report, the suspect responded with comments including that this was “America” and they should “go back to their country.” The victim said the encounter quickly became physical. He said he primarily attempted to restrain the suspect rather than fight back, and after a customer intervened, he was able to subdue him.
Officers reviewed security footage which reportedly corroborated the account.
The suspect spat blood onto a paramedic who was treating him. While at the hospital, according to the report, he was verbally abusive toward BCH emergency department personnel attempting to provide treatment. During transport to jail, he allegedly resisted officers by going limp and refusing to walk.
The suspect was charged with robbery, 3rd degree assault, criminal attempt, and obstructing police.
Trespassing / Meth / False Identity Arrest
5/8
A residence Goss Grove
11:18 PM
Officers responded to a reported trespassing incident after a homeowner remotely saw a man on security cameras repeatedly knocking and banging on the home’s front door. She told them she activated the home alarm remotely multiple times in an effort to get him to leave before he eventually walked away. According to the report, the homeowner said the property had experienced another trespassing incident resulting in an arrest approximately five days earlier. Officers later reviewed the security footage.
Officers contacted the suspect nearby, where he claimed he had been attempting to get help for an asthma attack and had been asking for a taxi. Police discovered he had outstanding warrants and located methamphetamine during a search. Officers also reportedly found identification documents belonging to other people.
During jail intake, fingerprinting revealed the suspect’s true identity after he had allegedly been identifying himself using another person’s name. He was arrested on charges including trespassing, felony meth possession, criminal impersonation, and possession of identification documents belonging to others.
Attempted Convenience Store Robbery
5/9
A convenience store downtown
5:45 AM
Police responded to a reported robbery in progress after dispatch received information that a man armed with a screwdriver was attempting to break into the cash register. Officers arrived while the suspect was still inside the store, where one officer pointed a Taser at him and ordered him outside.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly told the store clerk, “Get on the ground, I am robbing the register,” while pointing a screwdriver at him. The clerk said the suspect had earlier been at the store and that he had previously called an ambulance for him. The suspect later returned and attempted to pry open the cash register using the screwdriver during the robbery. Officers reported finding minor damage to the register and nearby store fixtures.
Police recovered a black-handled screwdriver from the suspect during a search incident to arrest. The suspect declined to speak with officers after being advised of his Miranda rights.
The suspect was arrested on attempted robbery and criminal attempt charges and transported to the Boulder County Jail. According to the report, he later made suicidal statements while at the jail.
Library Trespass / Resisting Arrest
5/10
1001 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder Public Library
1:45 PM
Library security contacted police regarding a man who allegedly refused to leave the Boulder Public Library after complaints from patrons that he had removed his shoes and caused a strong odor. Security said he initially left but then forced his way back inside past guards.
Officers found him upstairs with a jug of milk and a book. He allegedly refused commands, gave officers a false first name, and argued that he was not trespassing. While being escorted outside, he yelled at passersby and allegedly made a comment about “reaching for my gun,” prompting officers to conduct a pat-down for safety reasons. According to the report, during the frisk the suspect claimed officers had grabbed his genitals and accused them of sexually assaulting and brutalizing him.
Police said he later resisted attempts to place him into a patrol vehicle — at one point saying he was “afraid of cars” — leading officers to physically restrain him and eventually place him into a safety wrap.
Police later confirmed his real identity and arrested him on charges including trespassing, obstructing police, resisting arrest, and providing false identifying information. He was taken to Boulder Community Health for a medical clearance and then transported to jail for a book and release.
