About this report

This report documents nine (9) public-safety incidents occurring in Boulder, Colorado from 5/22 – 5/26 using police reports obtained through Colorado Open Records Act requests following the encryption of routine Boulder Police radio dispatch communications in October 2025. The incidents summarized here were reconstructed primarily from written police reports and related official records.

These incidents represent only a small fraction of public-safety activity occurring in Boulder during this period. Limitations in availability of official records continue to restrict how much can be confidently documented. Case in point, today is June 12th, 2026 and all of these incidents are from May.


Disturbance / Trespass Arrest

Date: 5/22/26
Time: 10:17 AM
Location: Trader Joe’s, 19xx 28th St.

Officers responded to a disturbance involving a man who had previously been trespassed from Trader Joe’s. Witnesses reported he had been following a mother and child through the parking lot. According to the report, one witness described him as speaking to them “in a disturbing manner.”When employees intervened, the man allegedly became confrontational, pushed one employee, and attempted to strike him. The employee took him to the ground and held him briefly until police arrived.

Witnesses said the suspect was a frequent source of disturbances at the location, but this was the first incident that became physical. The suspect was arrested on charges including trespassing, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

Per the report:
“Multiple customers alerted [employee] that [suspect] was following customers, pulling on car doors, looking into cars by sticking his head inside open windows, and asking for money and diamonds.”

When contacted by officers:
“For the entire duration on scene, [suspect] was yelling obviously offensive and coarse language including such things as “white trash [6-letter racial slur]” in the direction of store staff and random people going by.”

“[Suspect]  was placed into the back seat of my patrol vehicle. I transported him to the Boulder County Jail. While en route, [suspect] continued to barrage of offensive language and slurs directed at me now. He continued this behavior at the jail and was placed into a disciplinary cell.”


Shoplifting / Warrants / Drug Distribution Arrest

Location: Marshall’s, 18xx 28th St.

Officers responded to a report that a woman had filled bags with merchandise and left Marshall’s without paying. The suspect was located nearby and initially denied taking anything, but later admitted taking a tote bag and placing store merchandise into another bag she was carrying. Approximately $160 worth of merchandise was recovered and returned to the store. During the investigation, officers learned the suspect had multiple active failure-to-appear warrants. A search incident to arrest reportedly uncovered evidence supporting additional charges related to drug distribution and possession of another person’s financial transaction device. She was taken to jail for a book-and-release with a felony summons.


Liquor Store Theft / Protection Order Violation

Location: Harvest Wine & Spirits, 30xx Arapahoe Ave.

Employees reported a man stole a bottle of whiskey valued at about $26 and left on foot. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and circulated an image of the suspect. Another officer recognized him from prior contacts and knew him to be a resident of a Housing First facility in Boulder.

Officers later located the suspect near his residence carrying what appeared to be the stolen bottle. According to the report, he refused commands and resisted arrest. He was ultimately taken into custody on charges including theft, obstruction, resisting arrest, and violation of a protection order.


Underpass Arrest Following Traffic Stop

Location: 28th Street & Bluff Street area

An officer attempted to stop a male and female after observing them cross the street outside a crosswalk. While the man remained and spoke with police, the woman disappeared from view and was later located with a group beneath a nearby underpass. When the officer attempted to relocate her away from the group, she became argumentative, and a large dog in the group became aggressive as well. The owner of the dog left with it when asked.

When the officer attempted to detain her, she allegedly resisted and physically struggled with officers before being handcuffed. A search reportedly uncovered drug paraphernalia including burnt foil, a syringe, a torch, and straws commonly associated with drug use.

The woman was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Her backpack and sleeping bag were placed into safekeeping.


Felony Menacing at Downtown Bar

Location: Press Play, 10xx Pearl St.

Security staff at a downtown bar reported that an intoxicated man became angry after being denied entry while carrying an alcoholic beverage. Witnesses said he claimed to have a firearm, reached into a backpack, and threatened staff. Employees reported fearing he was armed and one said the man threatened to wait for staff after their shifts ended. Officers quickly located the suspect nearby and detained him at gunpoint. No firearm was found, but he was arrested on a felony menacing charge.


Juvenile Driver Accused of Intentionally Striking Cyclist During Road Rage Incident

Location: 10th Street & Forest Avenue area

Police investigated what witnesses described as an intentional collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. According to the victim and witnesses, the incident began after a confrontation near a roundabout. The driver allegedly honked, pursued the cyclist through a residential neighborhood, and struck him multiple times with a vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle drive onto the sidewalk in an apparent attempt to hit the cyclist before fleeing.

The cyclist suffered significant injuries, including a fractured pelvis. A juvenile driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and driving without a valid license.

The juvenile suspect’s identity is redacted from the report.


Assault at Mapleton Ball Fields

Date: 5/26/26
Time: 12:13 AM
Location: Mapleton Ball Fields

A man contacted police after approaching an individual who was lying on private property and asking whether he needed assistance. According to the victim, the man became agitated when told he needed to leave and suddenly punched him in the face. The victim took the suspect to the ground and restrained him until the confrontation ended.

Officers reviewed body camera footage recorded by the victim, which reportedly captured the lead-up to the assault. During the arrest, officers discovered the suspect had numerous active warrants. An inventory of his backpack also led to an additional charge after officers found a debit card belonging to another person.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault. Officers also discovered eight active failure-to-appear warrants, seven from Boulder County and one from Weld County.


Encampment Contact Leads to Warrant Arrest

Location: 28th Street & Diagonal Highway

Officers investigating an illegal camping complaint contacted a woman staying in a tent near the roadway. During the encounter, officers learned she was wanted on a felony warrant involving assault allegations, along with a separate failure-to-appear warrant. She was taken into custody without incident and booked into jail.


Assault Resulting in Broken Wrist Near Pearl Street

Location: 9th and Walnut St.

Police responded after a man was found with what appeared to be a serious wrist injury. Witnesses reported that a verbal dispute between two unhoused individuals escalated when one man became angry and charged back toward the other. The victim told officers he had called the suspect an insulting name after an earlier exchange. According to the report, the suspect returned, pushed him to the ground, and allegedly caused him to land on his arm, resulting in a broken wrist.

The suspect was later located playing pool in a bar a couple of blocks away. When questioned, he denied assaulting anyone and claimed he did not remember where he was at the time of the assault, one hour earlier. He was arrested for second-degree assault.
